U9 Gunners

U7/U9 (2016& 2017, 2018,2019&2020)

Coordinator: Cody Huseby

U7 and U9 will be played as a joint division, playing on Monday's and Wednesday's

U7/U9 Program Overview

  • Development First:
The focus at the U7 and U9 level is on skill development rather than formal gameplay. Building confidence and control on skates is the top priority.

  • Why Skating Matters:
Skating is the foundation of roller hockey. Control and stopping on roller skates can be more challenging than on ice, which is why so much attention is given to these core skills.

    • Informal Development Nights – Mondays: Stick and Puck

      • Unstructured time on the floor for players to explore at their own pace

      • Players choose how to use the time (e.g. skating, practicing stopping, shooting, stick handling, passing with a friend)

      • No official programming

      • U18 leadership players are present to interact, demonstrate skills, and support younger players

  • Structured Skill Nights - Wednesdays:

    • Focused on specific skill development

    • Includes drills to build skating, stick handling, passing, and shooting, and game play in the form of scrimmages

    • Led by coaches in a structured format
